Cape Cod Independent Jewelry Appraisers' story began in 1993 when owner Gilberto Viana first applied for a job at Guertin Brothers Jewelers, one of the top jewelry stores in Cape Cod at the time. Gilberto had just completed his diamond course at the campus of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in California and knew he wanted to become a diamond appraiser.

While in California Gilberto also became a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Sales and Human Relations Institute. This education proved to be invaluable in years ahead as it gave him the ability to better understand his client's needs and expectations and to build rapport and trust with them.

Gilberto was hired by Guertin Brothers Jewelers to appraise diamonds on the weekends. Their customers immediately loved his work ethic and quality. After having one item appraised, they would come back with more items. Feeling he was satisfying his customers, needs and expectations, Gilberto decided to pursue becoming a Graduate Gemologist with GIA. As a graduate gemologist, he was now able to appraise not only diamonds but also colored stones, pearls and precious metals. This is when Gilberto decided to become a full time jewelry appraiser and started his business, Cape Cod Independent Jewelry Appraisers. Gilberto purchased a complete, portable gemological laboratory from GIA that enabled him to travel to his client's locations. This allowed him to perform the examination and necessary tests while his clients watched.

Cape Cod Times, the leading newspaper in the region, features Gilberto as a gemologist who is an expert in important diamonds of a higher value. You can read the entire article by clicking here
